RYSTON PITCH & PUTT CLUB

Welcome to the PPUI webpage of Ryston Pitch and Putt Club.

Ryston is a Pitch and Putt Club located on Athgarvan Road Newbridge Co Kildare, The club was founded in 1960 and has gone from strength to strength with over 100 members to date. The club has previously had the privilege of hosting the National and Leinster Championships. The Club can also boast of having National and Leinster Champions.

Ryston Sports and Social Club a historic Newbridge institution that was founded in 1949 as Irish Ropes Social Club. Irish Ropes factory was a massive employer in Kildare and the club was formed to provide sports and social activities for its workers.

In the mid 50s Eric Rigby Jones (managing director of Irish Ropes) gave the use of the land Ryston to the social club. The founder members were M Gereghty. J Connolly.

They set about developing the pitch and putt course. This was a slow process as most of the work was done voluntary. They also had to raise the funds by running social nights , raffles ect.

In 1960 the Pitch and Putt section of the club was born and it is a great credit to the founder members that the layout of the club has hardly altered over the years. It was one of the first clubs to be affiliated to the newly formed P P U I (1961).

The club soon became a thriving club and over the years has become interwoven into the fabric of the county and the country. The club has hosted over the years all the Kildare. Leinster and national championships . In the 90s the factory was sold to the Barlo Group and in 1999 the land here at Ryston was given to the members.

It was also decided to change the name to Ryston. The red setter had been the emblen of Irish Ropes also used as the crest of the club so the members decided to hold on to it as the crest of Ryston.

The club has amongst its members 10 national title holders,
